Protester’s Guide for Thursday’s FOIA Rally
Protesters at Thursday’s rally:
Thank you so much for joining us in the fight for greater transparency in Massachusetts. The goal of the rally is gain momentum to get a good bill passed and let our elected officials know we’re serious.
To insure we get our message across and further the cause, please follow this guide during the rally:
STAY ON MESSAGE
OUR DEMANDS:
– FIRM TIME FRAMES FOR PROVIDING RECORDS –- Delay is a form of denial.
– A STRAIGHTFORWARD, EFFECTIVE APPEALS PROCESS –- Real remedies without a legal maze.
– MANDATORY ATTORNEY FEES –- Most states require fee awards when officials violate the law.
– REDUCED FEES FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION -– Affordability = Access. No information tax. Access to our records is a baseline right in a democracy that ensures freedom of inquiry and the right to dissent.
